Its Time For Georgia to Pass the Hate Crime Bill

Time to do the right thing for Georgians

Last week, I called for Georgia to pass a Hate Crime Bill. Georgia is one of five states still without one. Last year, HB 426 passed in the House but stalled in the Senate. HB 426 increases penalties for crimes where the victim is targeting based on race, color, religion, national origin, sexual orientation, gender, mental disability or physical disability.

When the Georgia Assembly reconvenes on June 11, 2020, the entire country will be watching to see if Georgia does the right thing. I also support the recent suggestion to rename the HB 426 the Ahmaud Arbery Bill so we never forget that every live really does matter in Georgia.

As your representative I will fight to repeal laws that allow abusive citizen arrest tactics nd stand your ground laws which are used as shields for race-based vigilantism.
