Steel Magnolia, the duo of Joshua Scott Jones and Meghan Linsey, first gained notoriety after winning CMT’s β€œCan You Duet?” in 2010. Since then, they’ve toured with country stars Brad Paisley, Reba McEntire and Blake Shelton and have even appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel Live! and Lopez Tonight.

Linsey, a New Orleans native, always knew she wanted to be a singer. She said her mother was always playing country music and her father listened to 70s rock and roll,Β  and that’s how she created her unique blend of country rock.

Jones, who was raised by adoptive parents in rural Illinois, said his musical style was inspired by the music he heard in church. His father was a pastor and his family began going to an African-American church when Jones turned 13, and the soul he gained from the music in church is apparent in the music of Steel Magnolia today.

The two met at a karaoke bar in downtown Nashville. Jones had moved there as the lead singer for a rock band, and Linsey had enrolled as a student at Belmont University and was working at this particular karaoke bar.

"I think we both have a knack for melodies. I don't think there's a lot of thinking that goes on behind who's going to sing this or that line. It's more of a tonal quality that kind of comes together and just works, almost like a sibling thing," Jones said in a bio on the duo's website.

Linsey agreed, saying, "And that's why I feel like we were meant to sing together. From that first song when we started working on 'Edge of Goodbye,' the only thing that's ever really worked is what happens naturally when he sings and I start singing, too."

The concert begins at 8 p.m. Friday at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheatre. Tickets are $15-$35. For Wednesday only, use the discount code magnolia and buy one ticket and get a second free. Purchase tickets here.
