Six Flags President Should be Commended for Swift Actions Taken

Family Receives Apology and an Invitation to Return as Special Guests of Six Flags

With issues being brought to light daily in our country, we know all too well how an incident can easily become a "major incident" if not effectively managed by the people involved.

An incident caught my attention and I am compelled to comment on it because it occurred right here in our backyard at Six Flags Over Georgia Amusement Park.

A mother and her kids were stopped by security for having on black lives matter t-shirts. The security guard pulled them aside, claimed the shirts were not allowed, and called superiors to report the situation. The mother disagreed that the shirts were not allowed, and she and her children made their way into the park, however, their enjoyment was clearly shattered by the incident.

Six Flags management heard about the incident and its President, Dale Kaetzel, immediately stepped in to correct the wrong that had occurred with this family.

I commend Dale for his swift and appropriate handling of the situation, which included a sincere apology to the family, an invitation for them to return to the park as his special guests, and a commitment to retrain his team members to ensure that inconclusiveness policies are followed. I also commend the mother and her children for remaining calm during a difficult situation brought on by under trained staff.

With Six Flags recently opening for the summer (after being closed for months due to Covid-19) many families like this one will be eager to take part in the rides and attractions the park offers.

I am extremely happy that Dale and Six Flags stepped up to do the right thing in this incident. As the quote goes…it is never too late to do the right thing.

Six Flags is a main entertainment attraction for the area, an economic engine for the State of Georgia, and a major business that calls our community of South Cobb home.
