Sometimes the (I) Incumbent is not good for (U) You the Voter

As campaign season gets underway, you will see candidates coming out of the woodwork lobbying for the role to be your next elected official on the local, state, and federal levels. Depending on their intensity of engagement, this lobbying effort will persuade voters how to cast their ballots. I commend candidates who engage the voters as to why they are the best choice for office. What we should not support are those running for office that do not trouble themselves to engage us, the voters, at all.

Instead, they count on us returning them back to office because they have an (I) next to their name which stands for Incumbent. In my years of voting and being involved in my community, I have seen candidates come and go. I am speaking from experience when I say everything with the (I) next to it is not good for us or our community and sometimes that (I) has to go.

I’m talking about Incumbent representatives from our area, the ones who have earned the new label of “do nothing incumbent representation”. They do nothing for our community, they are invisible as they don’t show up to community meetings, and they don’t fight for ANY issues that impact our quality of life. Yet, they expect us to “mindlessly” send them back to office each election cycle because they have an (I) next to their names.

A name that comes to mind here is Senator Horecena Tate. She is so invisible in our community she has been given the nickname “Horecena, haven’t see ya”. The only time our South Cobb community knows she represents us is a few months before the elections when she puts out yard signs. Otherwise, you will never see or hear from her. Oh and don’t bother calling her, I have tried on numerous occasions. She will not return your calls or meet with citizens on issues. Again, the words “do nothing” is more than appropriate here.

The other label of representation that must go is the “embarrassment representative”. This is the Incumbent representative who has embarrassed themselves and our community on a local, state, national, and international level. It is insane when people from Japan are talking about an incident in South Cobb. Like Godzilla, this Incumbent representative has bullied herself through our community, attacked people at will, created false Facebook postings (with manufactured tears), and filing false police reports on citizens in our community. The person I am talking about here is State Representative Erica Thomas. Her impersonation of “Jussie Smollett” has made herself and us the butt of all jokes. It has also left people around the world questioning our sanity for electing someone like this to represent us. If you don’t believe me, google her name and see what is being said about her and our community all across the world.

It was evident that the Democratic Party leadership knew she was lying as very few from that group were willing to put their reputations on the line for this lie. They did not come to her rescue or stand with her at her ill-advised press conference as she denounced the man that “allegedly attacked” her and her daughter at the grocery store. You must also take a step back and question the mentality of someone who has an encounter at the grocery store where she is clearly seen on video rushing after her “alleged attacker” and then goes home and creates a video where she is the “alleged victim”. Folks - this is not normal behavior for anyone and should not be acceptable behavior for someone who represents our community.

Since her story of being attacked was proven to be false and her aggressive attack of Eric Sparkes in the grocery store parking lot the next day has gone viral, she has been in hiding. She recently resurfaced at a Democratic breakfast with a new look, I'm guessing this new look is supposed to make us forget about the charade and the lies told at our local grocery store. As she spoke to the people in attendance, she had the audacity to say, “let your mess be your message”. Are you kidding us. The only message we are getting from your mess is that you must go, and we must vote you out of office.

Last week both (I) Incumbent representatives (Horecena Tate and Erica Thomas) had the nerve to roll out of their beds, beat everyone down to the capital, and stood in line to register to run again for office. WOW! You just can't make this stuff up!

In order to move us forward and to stop the public shaming of our community, we need fresh new representation. I am urging voters to do your homework and become familiar with new candidates in these races as we must, we will, and we can do better.

New Representation that is already making positive impacts in our community:

Candidate Terry Alexis Cummings is running to become our next Representatives for the 39th House District to replace the incumbent. Terry is an Attorney who retired from the Justice Department after a 30-year career. She is an active homeowner, residing in the Mableton area of South Cobb. Terry is a college professor and a community advocate. She graduated from Rutgers University and Georgetown Law. She is on the board for her HOA and is active with MIC and Austell Community Taskforce. Terry is intelligent and thoughtful about our community, but most importantly, she is involved. Candidate Michael Carson is running for the State Senate to replace Horacena Tate. Michael has devoted his entire life to serving others. During this election period, which will include absentee voting, early voting, and casting your vote in person on election day, voters must make themselves educated on the candidates who are asking to represent us, but most importantly, they must understand why everything with an (I) on the ballot is not good for U or me.

Even though I have highlighted these do nothing or embarrassing representatives, that does not reflect my position on all Incumbents.
