South Cobb Students Should Apply for Cobb EMC Scholarships

Cobb Commissioner Candidate Shelia Edwards Urges Students to Apply for Cobb EMC Scholarships

With graduation quickly approaching and decisions being made about how to afford to send your child to college, I am encouraging parents of students who attend High Schools in the South Cobb area to apply for two scholarships that were recently announced by Cobb EMC and the Cobb EMC Community Foundation. Since its creation, 156 students have been awarded over $451,000 from Cobb EMC Community Foundation. The annual scholarships are open to students whose household receives electricity from Cobb EMC.

Applications for the Walter Harrison Scholarships must be submitted by February 3, 2020. Winners will receive $1,000.

Application for the Community Foundation Scholarships must be submitted by February 28, 2020 to be considered for one of the 14 scholarships the Cobb EMC Community Foundation will be awarding in the amount of $5,000.

Scholarship winners will be determined based on grades and test scores, letters of recommendations and an essay on their future goals. Once awarded, the funds can be utilized at any accredited college, university, or technical school.

I urge Parents, School Administrators, Principals, Guidance Counselors, and Teachers to encourage qualified students to apply for these scholarships today.
