Stone Mountain Man Fatally Shot By Police Was Not Touching Gun: GBI

Authorities initially said the man was reaching for a handgun during the shooting but are now saying the man was not seen touching a gun.

STONE MOUNTAIN, GA — More details have been released in the shooting death of a man killed by DeKalb County Police in early November, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.

Marando Salmon, 36, was shot and killed Nov. 4 in the 900 block of Autumn Crest Court.

At the time, the GBI said the man reached for a nearby handgun before the shooting.

The GBI said Tuesday Salmon threw an object at a police officer who opened a bedroom door. He was not seen touching a gun but was reaching for a nearby item, the GBI said.

A handgun was recovered from the room he was in, the GBI said.

No officers were injured in the shooting, authorities said.
