Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and Woodstock Fire and Rescue units responded to a fire around 11:30 a.m. May 11 at a home on Lexington Avenue, which is located off Towne Lake Hills South Drive near Woodstock High School.
When firefighters arrived onto the scene, ”the roof of the structure was already ventilated, resulting in heavy fire and smoke,” said Cherokee County Battalion Chief Shane West.

When they arrived onto the scene, firefighters were notified that a bulldog was still inside the structure at the time of the fire. The dog was found in the front bedroom of the house, and firefighters were able to save the dog.
The house, which was being occupied by Dwayne and Angie Morgan and their three sons, “was completely gutted by the fire,” Cherokee County fire said in its press release.
The Morgans told authorities that they had relatives nearby, so the American Red Cross was not called, Cherokee County fire added.
A neighbor who called Cherokee County dispatchers to report the blaze stated she saw the fire coming from the back deck.
A Cherokee County fire investigator was called to the scene, and the incident remains under investigation. No injuries were reported.
Sixes Elementary School, which is where Angie Morgan works as a cafeteria assistant manager, is asking the community to provide monetary donations and gift cards to the family.
Residents can stop by Sixes Elementary School at 20 Ridge Road in Canton with their donations, which can be given to bookkeeper Deena Smith.
