Woodstock Man Charged In Highway 92 Burglaries

Nine businesses were targeted, and the suspect was able to gain entry at some places by shattering the front door using a hammer.

WOODSTOCK, GA -- The man police say was captured on camera burglarizing businesses along Highway 92 in Woodstock has been apprehended. The Woodstock Police Department said Mark Gary Highsmith, 48, was taken into custody with the help of the Suwanee Police Department around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

Highsmith is charged with nine counts of burglary, three counts of criminal damage to property in the second degree and six counts of criminal trespassing. Woodstock police spokesperson Brittany Duncan said Highsmith could also face charges from Suwanee police. The string of burglaries occurred between Sunday, July 23 and Monday, July 24. A total of nine establishments -- five occurring early Sunday morning and four reported early Monday morning -- were targeted by the same suspect, the police department said Tuesday.

The suspect was able to gain access to each business by parking behind their buildings and entering through a front glass door using a hammer. He also took an undisclosed amount of cash from cash drawers at some locations.

Highsmith is in custody at the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center with a $156,999 bond.
