• Alaska, Hawaiian Air to use new planes for interisland flights (travelweekly.com) — If you're flying between Honolulu and Kahului, get ready for Alaska-branded Boeing 737-800 jets starting Oct. 3, bringing in-seat power, premium seating, and free Starlink WiFi. Travelers will also face stricter check-in deadlines, with luggage drop now required at least 50 minutes before departure on Alaska Hawaiian interisland flights. 
• Maui residents show elevated metal levels, abnormal lung function post-wildfires: New UH report (khon2.com) — Kahului residents are among those showing some of the highest median levels of certain metals in a new University of Hawaiʻi study of Maui adults after the 2023 wildfires. Researchers found elevated metals and links to abnormal lung function, and they're launching a five-year project to better understand long-term contamination and exposure across the island.
