Algonquin Man Convicted Of Sexually Abusing Girl

The abuse occurred over nine years, prosecutors said.

ALGONQUIN, IL — A Algonquin man has been convicted of sexually abusing a girl over a nine-year period in the 1980s and 90s, prosecutors said. Robert Libricz, 58, could now face between four and sixty years in prison when he is sentenced in January. Libricz was found guilty during a bench trial last month.

The charges brought before the McHenry County judge last month involved accusations from a woman – a relative – who said Libricz assaulted her between 1989 and 1998. He is also accused of sexually assaulting a different relative in a case that has not yet gone to trial.

During the November trial, prosecutors said Libricz committed multiple acts of sexual penetration and abuse against a minor child. When the abuse first began, the child was under 13 years old.

In court, prosecutors played audio from two conversations that one of the women recorded with Libricz without his knowledge, according to the Northwest Herald. In one of the conversations, Libricz said, "Your mom thinks something went on. I don't know why it went on. ... I wasn't drunk. I wasn't high," the NW Herald reported.

His sentencing hearing has been set for Jan. 31.
