Driver Flown To Hospital After Concrete Slabs Pin Him In Semi: Police
The slabs went through the back window of the semi after the driver stopped at Algonquin and Randall roads on Wednesday morning.
LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL — The driver of a semi has been seriously injured after a load of concrete slabs, which had been located in the trailer portion of his tractor, went through the back window and pinned him inside Wednesday morning. Authorities say the incident occurred while the semi was southbound on Randall Road and stopped at the intersection of the Algonquin and Randall roads at about 11 a.m.

When the semi stopped, the concrete slabs "shifted forward" and through the back window of the vehicle, according to a news release from the Algonquin-Lake In The Hills Fire Protection District.

Authorities say emergency personnel extricated the man, who was the only person inside the semi, and began performing life-saving measures before he was flown to Advocate Condell Medical Center for further treatment, according to a news release from the Algonquin-Lake In The Hills Fire Protection District.
The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
