Home Decor Superstore Moving Into Former Dominick's

At Home is coming to Lake in the Hills, village officials announced Thursday.

LAKE IN THE HILLS, IL -- A home decor superstore will be moving into and building onto the former Dominick's building in Lake in the Hills, filling a long-vacant space at Randall and Algonquin roads. At Home will add about 12,000-square-feet of space onto the vacant building at The Centre at Lake in the Hills. At Home is leasing the space from U-Haul International, which purchased the 72,000-square-foot Dominick's and other shops in the strip mall earlier this year.

U-Haul plans to occupy a retail space in the building and will also use a portion of the space for self-storage.

After announcing its plans on Thursday, George Hahne, the village's economic development coordinator, said the village had been working on the deal for a year, according to the Daily Herald.

"The lease (was) signed between At Home and U-Haul last week," he said. "They have all their permits (for) demolition and construction. They are going to expand off the front of the building, and then on the north side of the building right now exists a grass berm ... they are going to build on that."

Interested retails have backed out of deals to occupy the space over the past five years it has sat vacant. At one point, Aldi's was eyeing the space for a prototype store and Big R also dropped out of a deal to move into the building.
