School Sex Abuse Case: Lawsuit Filed Against Former Teacher, D300

The lawsuit has been filed in Kane County Court by the parents of a young boy who was allegedly sexually abused by Carlos Bedoya.

ALGONQUIN, IL – The parents of a a young boy who claim their child was sexually abused by a former District 300 substitute kindergarten teacher have filed a lawsuit against the 62-year-old Lake in the Hills man, the Daily Herald reports. Carlos A. Bedoya currently faces 40 counts of predatory criminal sexual assault, aggravated criminal sexual abuse and solicitation of a minor in connection with allegations he sexually assaulted eight different children. He was arrested in July 2017 after allegations surfaced regarding the abuse of two 6-year-old boys and the additional charges have been filed since more children have come forward with similar allegations, according to the article.

The parents of one of the male victims claim in the lawsuit, filed against District 300, Golfview Elementary School Principal Lindsay Sharp and Bedoya, that Bedoya put their son on his lap against his will and had "unwanted and deviant physical contact" with him during the school day, according to the Daily Herald. The lawsuit also alleges the substitute teacher followed the boy the bathroom where he watched him undress and urinate.

The parents who filed the lawsuit claim the school district and Sharp should have known about Bedoya's behavior and that he was not fit to be a teacher, according to the article.

Bedoya, of the 100 block of Acorn Lane in Lake in the Hills, remains in custody on a $3.85 million bond.
