Mom Charged In Crash That Killed Son, Hurt 6 Kids Near Hoffman Estates
Prosecutors said the car was going 94 mph before the crash, with some of the children sitting on the floor of the vehicle, not restrained.

HOFFMAN ESTATES, IL — An arrest has been made in connection with a June crash on Interstate 90 near Hoffman Estates that resulted in the death of a 6-year-old boy. The boy's mother, Doniqua N. Hilliard, 36, of Rockford, is charged with one count of aggravated driving under the influence causing death (class 2 felony), three counts of aggravated driving under the influence causing bodily harm (class 4 felony), and three counts of child endangerment (class A misdemeanor).
Hilliard was arrested Monday. Her bond was set at $200,000 on Tuesday. She remains in the Cook County Jail.
At around 12:25 a.m. June 12, Illinois State Police responded to a single vehicle rollover crash in the eastbound lanes of I-90 near Barrington Road in Hoffman Estates, according to a news release. Police said Hilliard's 2003 GMC Yukon vehicle veered to the left and struck the center median wall. The vehicle then swerved across all lanes and crashed into the right ditch, coming to rest on its rooftop.

Hilliard and her seven children were taken to area hospitals with injuries ranging from stable to critical. Four days later, the 6-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries.
The right lanes of I-90 were closed for nearly four hours following the crash.

The Daily Herald reports only two of Hilliard's seven children, aged between 2 and 15, were properly restrained. In addition, prosecutors said Tuesday that an airbag control module showed the car was going 94 mph just before the crash, with some kids sitting on the floor when the crash occurred.
