Pedestrian Struck By Metra Train Near Mount Prospect Identified
The 60-year-old woman was killed Tuesday night in what police are calling an "accidental" incident.
MOUNT PROSPECT, IL — The name of a pedestrian killed Tuesday after being struck by a Metra train in what appears to be an accident has been released. Paula Maloney, 60, of Mount Prospect, died from her injuries, according to police and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office.
The incident occurred at around 5:13 p.m. on the Union Pacific Railroad tracks near the intersection of Northwest Highway (Route 14) and Emerson Street, according to a news release. Maloney was struck by an outbound Metra express commuter train (No. 633). CCMEO said the time of death was 5:40 p.m.
Police said there were no other injuries reported as a result of this incident.

Mount Prospect Police Officer Greg Sill told Patch, "the preliminary investigation does not indicate that it was intentional and it appears accidental."

There were extensive delays for both inbound and outbound trains well into late Tuesday evening following the incident, according to Metra. Some trains were operating out of sequence or were annulled.
The incident is still being investigated by the Mount Prospect Police Department, with the assistance of Metra police.
Maloney is survived by her husband, three children, mother and a number of other relatives, according to her obituary, which can be found here.
