SCHAUMBURG, IL — If you've ever wondered how much that old coin that's been passed down from generation to generation in your family is worth, make sure to head to the Central States Numismatic Society convention this week. Held Thursday through Saturday at the Renaissance Schaumburg Convention Center, 1551 North Thoreau Drive, the show will feature a chance for attendees to see $100 million of historic money.

According to organizers, there will also be an opportunity to sell rare coins, paper money, along with gold and silver bullion, to hundreds of professional dealers from the Midwest and across the country.

"Many of the dealers from throughout the Midwest and across the country will provide complimentary, expert evaluations of the public's vintage money. There also will be daily educational programs about the history of money," said Mitch Ernst, Central States president. "This family-friendly three-day show is open to everyone."

Visitors can also watch souvenir coins struck on a hand-operated, century-old rolling mill modified to become a rocker press. Replicas of one of Colonial America's most famous rare coins, the Pine Tree Shilling (1652), will be specially crafted and available for $1 while supplies last.

The coin show runs 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday.
