Channahon Police Chief Applications Being Taken
Police Chief Jeff Wold recently announced plans to retire effective December 1.

CHANNAHON, IL - This growing village west of Joliet is accepting applications to fill the upcoming police chief. Last Friday, Channahon Police Chief Jeff Wold announced his decision to retire effective December 1. Wold has been chief since 2011 and worked in the Channahon Police Department the past 22 years.
The police chief application deadline is 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 29, and applications should be submitted to the village human resources manager. The Channahon Police Department is authorized for 23 officers.
During an interview Thursday morning, Channahon Village Administrator Tom Durkin said the process of filling the police chief opening will be spearheaded by Mayor Missey Moorman Schumacher with input from the village board.

Durkin said that Channahon had not been preparing for Wold's departure. On the positive side, he noted, Wold will remain in charge of the department for another three months.
"It was certainly unexpected," Durkin said. "I have been very confident in his abilities ... He was a great addition to the village and the police department over all these years."

According to Channahon, the next police chief's salary will be determined based on qualifications and experience. The current annual salary for Wold is $123,016, according to village records.
