Cubs Held Scoreless in Return to World Series, Lose Game 1 to Indians

The Cubs still haven't crossed home plate in a World Series game since 1945.

CLEVELAND, OH - The Chicago Cubs' return to the World Series for the first time in 71 years was a dud offensively. The Cubs couldn't muster a single run against the Cleveland Indians and lost 6-0 at Progressive Field in Cleveland Tuesday night. Jon Lester gave up two runs in the first as the Indians led from start to finish.

Kyle Schwarber hit a long double in his first plate appearance since tearing his ACL on April 7, but the Cubs left five men on base in the closing innings.

Memorable Moment: Catcher David Ross made a nice "face-in-the-net" defensive play in the bottom of the first the end the inning. Cleveland left multiple runners on base, but had already scored twice in the frame.

Moment to Forget: The Cubs loaded the bases with no outs when they were down 3-0 in the top of the seventh, but Indians relief pitcher Andrew Miller got out of the jam without allowing a single run to the Cubs.

Another Moment to Forget: The Cubs are welcomed to their first World Series in 71 years, and three innings later they are on the wrong side of a record. Kluber struck out eight batters in the first three innings, something no one has ever done in a playoff game.
