86% Of Coronavirus Deaths In McHenry Co. Are In Nursing Homes

Nursing homes where the most deaths occurred are The Fountains at Crystal Lake and Crystal Pines Rehabilitation and Health Care Facility.

MCHENRY COUNTY, IL —To date, 117 people have died due to COVID-19 in McHenry County. And nearly 86 percent of those deaths have occurred in nursing homes.

In McHenry, there have been 96 deaths reported at nursing homes with the majority occurring in the first couple months of the pandemic.

The Fountains at Crystal Lake and Crystal Pines Rehabilitation and Health Care Facility saw the most COVID-19 deaths among its residents. As of Friday, Crystal Pines Rehabilitation and Health Care Facility, where there has been at least one case reported in the past 28 days, has seen 88 test positive for the virus.

The Fountains at Crystal Lake has had a total of 46 confirmed cases and 15 death, according to state health data, which was last updated on Friday.

  • Alden Terrace of McHenry: 86 reported cases, with at least one in the past 28 days; 13 deaths
  • Cross Roads Care Center in Woodstock: 71 reported cases, none in the past 28 days; 13 deaths
  • Fair Oaks Health Center in Crystal Lake: 15 reported cases, none reported in the past 28 days; 3 deaths
  • Florence Nursing Home in Marengo: 31 reported cases, none reported in the past 28 days; 4 deaths
  • Hearthstone Manor in Woodstock: 69 reported cases, none reported in the past 28 days; 7 deaths
  • Revere Court of Crystal Lake: 14 reported cases, none reported in the past 28 days; 3 deaths
  • Sheltered Village in Woodstock: 43 reported cases, none reported in the past 28 days; nine deaths
  • The Springs at Crystal Lake: 38 reported cases, none reported in the past 28 days; 10 deaths

As of Friday, there is only one nursing home in the county that has had at least one resident test positive for the virus in the past 28 days with the rest of the facilities listed as COVID-19-free for more than a month.

As of June 3, about 2.5 months into the pandemic, 60 of the 83 COVID-19 deaths in McHenry County were in nursing homes. Since then, about 3.5 months later, 36 nursing home residents have died from COVID-19 and the virus has claimed the lives of 34 additional McHenry Co. residents.

Through late-June, those over the age of 80 years old accounted for the age-range most likely to test positive for the virus in Illinois--a population also the most vulnerable to serious complications and death, according to state data.
