No Charges Filed After Crystal Lake Standoff

A 25-year-old man was taken to the hospital for mental health reasons following the incident Monday night.

CRYSTAL LAKE, IL -- No charges will be filed following a standoff Monday night in Crystal Lake. Authorities were called to the 400 block of Charlotte Avenue at about 8 p.m. When officers arrived, they heard a long bang and, thinking it might be a gunshot, sent out a Nixle alert asking residents to avoid the area due to the police activity, the Northwest Herald reports.

They also asked residents to stay inside.

McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Sandra Rogers said authorities later learned the sound of a windshield breaking, and not a firearm discharging, was actually what they heard. A 25-year-old man who barricaded himself inside was the only person home at the time, according to the article.
