• Suburban Woman Dies After Being Pulled From Lake Michigan Near Grant Park (patch.com) — Residents of Des Plaines are mourning after a 34-year-old woman from the city was pulled from Lake Michigan near Monroe Harbor and later died at a hospital. Chicago police and the Marine Unit responded Friday night, and the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office identified her as Martina Ronak Christian as the investigation continues.
   

• Local 'Little Explorers' Continuing Despite Dolly Parton's Passing (journal-topics.com) — A new nonprofit, Little Explorers of the Plaines, is continuing to provide free monthly books to young children in Des Plaines and nearby towns despite Dolly Parton's recent passing. Co-founded by Des Plaines City Clerk Dominik Bronakowski, the program partners with the Des Plaines Library and is seeking support from local businesses and community leaders.
   

• 'Out Of Control' Man Facing Battery Charges (journal-topics.com) — Des Plaines police responded to a disturbance on Holiday Lane where a Mount Prospect man allegedly threatened people, struck a volunteer, and then pushed and spat at officers. He was subdued, checked by Des Plaines Fire Department personnel, and later arrested on three misdemeanor battery counts after police discovered an existing Cook County warrant.
