5 FUN Things to Do in the Downers Grove Area: WEEKEND

Berwyn Rt. 66 Car Show, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat., Aug. 27

The 26th annual WeatherTech Berwyn Rt. 66 Car Show sponsored by Paisans Pizzeria & Bar will be held on Ogden Avenue in Berwyn. Soak up car culture with over 550 custom cars, trucks and motorcycles. The show a parade to the World War I Memorial and a presentation by the Color Guard during the National Anthem. Live entertainment includes Elvis tribute artist Rick Saucedo and Tony Pellegrino performing a Frank Sinatra showcase of classic pop and standards. Prizes and trophies will be awarded to the top cars.

Elmhurst Artists Guild Art Crawl, 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.,Sat., Aug. 27

Artists and vendors will be set up on the grounds of the Elmhurst Art Museum with a free trolley available to the various galleries and businesses. The York Theater will be showing a special screening of E.T. at 10 a.m. Tickets are $7 with proceeds going to the Elmhurst Artists' Guild Scholarship Fund.

Children’s Theatre of Western Springs Open House, 10 a.m.-noon, Sat., Aug. 27

Parents and children are invited to stop by CWTS, 4384 Hampton Ave., Western Springs, for a presentation about the many programs offered for young people in grades K-12. by the theater and a chance to play theater/improv games with faculty. The open house also features a free magic show.

Dog Days of Summer Wine Tasting & Sale, 2 p.m. Sat., Aug. 27

Bring your pooch to the cellar and sip some wine at The Village Cellar, 24 W. Chicago Ave., Hinsdale. $7 tasting fee.

Children’s Service and Blessing of the Backpacks, 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 28

Join Downers Grove First United Methodist Church in Fishel Park on Grove Street for a special outdoor service, weather permitting, celebrating youth and children and blessing of the backpacks. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs. If it rains, the service will be moved indoors to the church (south of Fishel Park) at 1030 Maple Ave., Downers Grove. Families are invited to bring lawn chairs and blankets.
