American Music Institute will like to announce upcoming events and programs for the Fall Semester, starting Monday, August 22nd. AMI provides high-level music education and music lessons for all students in-school or in-home for all instruments, levels, ages, and styles of music.
As a non-profit organization, AMI is dedicated to the highest quality music education and professional music performance throughout the Chicago-land community. AMI offers music lessons and programs for all types of instruments, group classes, and ensembles. We offer piano lessons, violin lessons, guitar lessons, voice lessons and music lessons in all symphonic wind, brass, and string instruments in-school or in-home.

Downers Grove Grand Opening: Potential students, their parents, and Downers Grove community are invited to attend an event at the new location on August 14, 2016, beginning at 2-4pm. The open house will feature a concert including live performances by renowned faculty members from 3:30-4pm and an “instrument petting zoo,” which allows prospective students and their parents to see, hear and interact with the instruments they may play during their studies.
Group Classes will be Sept. 12 – Oct. 8, Oct 17 – Nov 12, and Nov. 21 – Dec. 17 for Voice, Violin, and Guitar. Register online, $95. Class will be held at both Clarendon Hills and Downers Grove Campuses.
Merit Scholarship Audition - Sept 10th, 2016 - 2pm-6pm
On September 10th students may audition to receive a Merit Scholarship from AMI.
Conservatory Program Auditions - Sept 10th, 2016 - 2pm-6pm
The program will take place Saturdays 12pm—4pm, Sept 17 – Dec 10, 2016. The AMI Conservatory Program is geared toward serious-minded musicians and is designed to bring young musicians ages 7-18 years old to the next level of their musical education. It combines key elements within music education and performance to develop students’ ability to prepare for a career or college education in music. Note: Students must have at least 2 or more years playing experience to participate. The program takes place at AMI’s Clarendon Hills Campus.
New AMI Faculty Members
Mark Linley - Percussion
Mark Linley received his bachelors of music from Roosevelt University's Chicago College of Performing Arts, and is currently pursuing a Master’s Degree in Music Performance from DePaul University. He is currently performing with groups such as the Wisconsin Philharmonic, the Fox Valley Symphony, with various jazz and world music groups throughout the city of Chicago.
Jered Montegomery - Winds/Brass
Jered is the Director of Bands and Professor of Trumpet at Morton College in Cicero, IL. He received a Bachelor’s of Music Magna cum laude from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale, and a Masters of Music from Roosevelt University’s Chicago College of Performing Arts. Having extensive performance experience in orchestras, quintets, jazz ensembles, and solo work, Jered has also been a teacher for the AMI Summer Music Camp.
Adam LaSalle - Voice
A baritone and a native New Yorker, Adam is an avid musical theatre student and performer. He holds a B.A. in choral conducting and vocal performance from the State University of New York at Geneseo (2012) and a Master’s in Education (2014). He is the Fine Arts Department Chair and Choir Director at Butler College Preparatory High School.
Alex Grimes - Guitar
Alex received his Bachelors of Arts in Music Composition at Columbia College Chicago, and a Masters by Research for Music Composition from University of Huddersfield. He is a composer-educator-researcher specializing in music projects for live performers with experience as a composer/guitarist leading jazz, funk, R&B, and hip-hop groups as well as academically-oriented contemporary music. He is passionate about teaching students from all backgrounds: using creativity to turn special challenges into unique skillsets.
Michael Zahlit - Violin/Viola
Michael received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Texas at Austin. Currently he is pursuing a Master’s degree in music performance from DePaul University. As an orchestral player, he has been principal violist of the Eastern Symphony Festival Orchestra, Interlochen Philharmonic, and a member of the University of Texas Symphony Orchestra and Opera Orchestra. Michael has appeared internationally in several premier music festivals, as both recitalist and orchestral member.
Tomas Gueglio - Guitar
Tomas received a PhD from the University of Chicago with a major in Composition and Guitar. He has experience teaching music theory and extensive guitar technique and is also active in the realm of computer music. He is experienced in the genres of rock, pop, jazz, and tango through recording as a session guitar player.
