Barnett To Be Next Mayor Of Downers Grove: Election Results

Barnett will be the village's first new mayor since 2011.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL -- The race for Downers Grove mayor, city council, and school boards took place on April 2. Polls opened at 6 a.m. Tuesday.

With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Robert T. Barnett was the unofficial winner of the race for mayor of Downers Grove. Barnett will be the village's first new mayor since 2011, replacing Mayor Martin Tully, who reached his term limits.

Mayoral Race

Downers Grove Mayor Martin Tully, who has served since 2011, was unable to seek re-election due to term limits. The race to replace him included two current village commissioners, Robert Barnett and Margaret Earl, and former village commissioner and state representative David Olsen. Village Commissioner

Three seats were open on the Downers Grove Village Board and five candidates, including current commissioner Nicole Walus, are making a bid to fill the spots. The candidates and unofficial vote totals are:

Downers Grove School District 58

One seat was open to serve an unexpired two-year term on the District 58 Board of Education. The candidates and unofficial vote totals are:

Three seats were open for a full four-year term on the school board of District 58. The candidates and vote totals are:

  • Emily Hanus: 5,407 votes
  • Kylie Spahn: 3,197 votes
  • Kirat Doshi: 3,569 votes
  • Steven Olczyk: 4,962 votes
  • Elizabeth Sigale: 3,424 votes

Community High School District 99

This election, three seats were available for full four-year terms to serve on the Community High School District 99 Board of Education. Here's a look at the candidates and vote totals:

  • Michael J. Davenport: 6,214 votes
  • Joanna Vazquez Drexler: 5,260 votes
  • Donald E. Renner III: 4,579 votes
  • Donald Erickson: 3,896 votes
  • Nancy Kupka: 7,729 votes

Throughout DuPage County, more than 93,000 voters turned out Tuesday, which was roughly 14 percent of registered voters.
