Downers Grove D.O.L.L.S. Rebels Crowned South West Suburban Conference 10U Champions

Rebels continue success by also winning Morris Tournament.

The Downers Grove D.O.L.L.S. Rebels 10U Team emerged champions after a very tough Morris Tournament June 24-26.

After going 2-1 in pool play on Saturday, defeating the Bolingbrook Fury 14-3 in the first game, then beating the Oswego Wolves 10-1, the Rebels squared off against the host Morris Rowdie Cats and dropped a close one 4-1.

Beginning on Sunday in elimination play, the rebels opened up with a 9-1 victory over the Warren (Gurnee) Wave. In the semifinals, the Rebels faced the undefeated Yorkville Foxes. After trailing 5-2 in the third inning the Rebels were able to tie the game in the top of the fourth inning and take the lead in the fifth.

In a rematch of the pool play game from the day before the undefeated host Rowdie Cats were set to defend their title from 2010. After taking an early lead of 3-1 in the second inning, the Rebels proved to be resilient, scoring one more in the third and allowing only one more run to secure the championship victory.

Competing in the South West Suburban Softball Conference this season, the Rebels compiled a regular season record of 18–2 and entering the conference championship tournament July 8-11 as the number one seed.

In the tournament opener the Rebels defeated the 11-seeded Bolingbrook Fury team in convincing fashion 17-0. Next in the bracket was the #12 Homer Hawks. The Rebels quickly disposed of them 16-2. 

In the semifinals the team next faced the third-ranked Bolingbrook Fury in a heated game. With six of their batters hit during the game, the Rebels emerged victorious 8-0 to advance to the conference championship against the Naperville Diamonds.

In the championship game the Diamonds and Rebels were deadlocked at 0-0 through three and a half innings when the Rebels opened up to score six runs, adding one more in the sixth inning to secure the victory and the conference championship.  

The team members are: Audrey Gusel, Emma Hayes, Maggie Greco, Madison Chudzik, Randie Mckay, Shannon McGlynn, Samantha Weidner, Kelcie Meyer, Kaitlyn Wilson, Stephanie Bielawa, Jessica Nichols, Melissa Manzo and are coached by Fred Gusel, Mike Greco, Pat Hayes, David Chudzik, and Maria Weidner.
