Fire Department Saw Slight Decrease In Calls Last Year In Downers Grove

The Downers Grove Fire Department responded to 8,158 calls in 2025, according to their annual report.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — The Downers Grove Fire Department (DGFD) recently shared its annual report from 2025, showing a slight decrease in calls. In total, DGFD responded to 8,158 service calls in 2025, whereas they received 8,277 service calls in 2024.

Of the service calls DGFD responded to in 2025, 5,069 were for rescues or medical emergencies, accounting for 62 percent of their total calls. In 2024, rescue and medical emergency calls accounted for 64.5 percent of incidents.

Per the 2025 annual report, this large percentage of medical-related calls helps illustrate the department's "vital role in emergency medical care and rapid response."

Here's the breakdown for the remainder of DGFD calls in 2025:

  • 15 percent: service calls for a smoke or odor, water leakage or a person in distress.
  • 13 percent: False alarms
  • Six percent: Good intent calls requesting mutual aid or reporting something mistaken for smoke
  • Four percent: Calls reporting hazardous conditions.

According to the 2024 annual report, DGFD saw a consistent increase in calls year-over-year from 2020 through 2024. The 2025 annual report reflects the first decrease in calls since the time between 2019 and 2020.
