Man Charged In Pregnant Woman's Murder Now In Critical Condition, Police Say

Police say Nedas Revuckas, 19, was in critical condition with apparent "self-inflicted" injuries while in DuPage County Jail Thursday.

DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Nedas Revuckas, who has been charged in the murder of Eliza Morales, of Downers Grove, was in critical condition Thursday night with apparent "self-inflicted" injuries following an incident at DuPage County Jail, police say.

According to DuPage County Sheriff's Office, Revuckas "sustained injuries in his housing unit" just before 5 p.m. Thursday. Police say a preliminary investigation indicates no one else was involved in the incident.

Revuckas was taken to a medical facility to be treated, but are not disclosing Revuckas's whereabouts due to "safety and security concerns."

On Thursday morning, Judge Joshua Dieden denied pretrial release for Revuckas in connection with Morales's murder. Revuckas is accused of stabbing Morales, who was five months pregnant, 70 times and setting fire to the apartment she shared with her husband and two-year-old daughter. He is further accused of stabbing the family's dog, Zula, between the eyes.

Revuckas was charged with six counts of first-degree murder with intent to cause death or great bodily harm, as well as armed robbery, aggravated arson, intentional homicide of an unborn child, and aggravated cruelty to animals.

In a press conference Thursday morning, DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin called the murder a "horrific act of violence" and said his office would pursue an enhanced "brutal and heinous" sentence for Revuckas.

His next court appearance is scheduled for Feb. 18.
