Man Charged With Drug-Induced Homicide In Downers Grove
A judge denied a request to lower bond from $750,000 to $30,000 for a man charged with drug-induced homicide.

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL — A DuPage County judge has denied a request to lower bond from $750,000 to $30,000 for a man charged with drug-induced homicide in the death of a 21-year-old man from Downers Grove. Gregory Jones, 47, of Maywood, is accused of providing Alexander Zabinski, 21, with a fatal dose of heroin on Dec. 14, according to authorities.
Police say that on Dec. 14, Zabinski drove to Maywood and bought five bags of heroin from Jones before driving back to Downers Grove and taking the drugs. Around 6 a.m. on Dec. 15, police say a family member found Zabinski unresponsive, administered Narcan, and gave CPR before an ambulance took Zabinski to a local hospital. Zabinski was pronounced dead at the hospital just before 7 a.m.
According to police, drug paraphernalia and heroin were found in Zabinski's home.

DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin addressed the county's ongoing issue of opioid misuse in a statement. "This senseless loss of life has to stop and one way to stop is to cut the supply line," he said. "A dealer may think twice about selling this poison knowing that they will be looking at a significant amount of time behind bars if they are the proven source of a fatal overdose."
Jones is set to appear in court again on March 25.
