DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Downers Grove residents are invited to attend a May 23 meeting to discuss proposed improvements to Highland Avenue and Main Street. The meeting will be held at Village Hall at 6 p.m.

At the meeting, village staff will present project designs, discuss alternative concepts and field questions about the project.

The improvements are prompted by a 2020 study that analyzed pedestrian safety near Downers Grove North and South High Schools. The proposed road work will include improvements on Highland Avenue between Lincoln and Grant Streets and on Main Street between Franklin Street and Sherman Road.

The safety study included several recommendations to change Main Street, including reducing traffic to three lanes from four between Franklin and Sherman, improving street lighting and adding crosswalks and pedestrian islands nearby.
