Elmhurst Schools Going Fully Remote: Official

ELMHURST, IL — Classes in Elmhurst School District 205 are going fully remote for two weeks starting Wednesday because of an increase in coronavirus cases in DuPage County, the district announced Friday.

In a mass email to families, Superintendent Dave Moyer said the district is making the decision because the county has reached the "substantial community transmission category."

"D205 was extremely excited to be the first unit district in DuPage County to welcome back all students to campus for hybrid learning during the week of Oct. 5," Moyer said. "

But he noted he spoke candidly during last week's school board meeting that the district may have to go fully remote because of the increasing cases in DuPage.

The county's weekly case count rose to 119 cases per 100,000 people, which is a 34 percent jump from the week before, the district said.

"This decision is not an easy one in a community that so highly values education and in-person learning," Moyer said.
