Fewer New Virus Cases In Elmhurst Schools
Elmhurst as a whole has seen a surge in coronavirus cases since August.

ELMHURST, IL — Fewer students tested positive for the coronavirus last week than they did the week before in Elmhurst School District 205, according to the latest numbers.
As of Friday, 46 students and nine staff members have tested positive since the beginning of the school year. The new cases last week numbered six for students and two for employees. That compares to 18 students and one employee during the week before, according to the district.
Since the beginning of the school year, 195 employees and 1,236 students have been quarantined or shown symptoms of the virus at some point. Last week, the number of new quarantine or symptomatic cases dropped for both students and teachers. According to district figures, 202 students were quarantined or reported to have symptoms last week, well less than half of the 473 the week before. For employees, the number dropped to 32, down from 48 a week before.

As of Monday, Elmhurst as a whole has seen 1,034 coronavirus cases since the beginning of the pandemic, according to the DuPage County Health Department. That's more than double the figure from Aug. 1.
Elmhurst School District 205 has more than 8,000 students. As of last week, students in all grades have returned for in-person learning. The district is following a hybrid model, in which students get a mix of in-person and remote lessons.
