ELMHURST, IL – Elmhurst police noted one similarity among a string of car burglaries that occurred overnight last Tuesday – all were unlocked.

This is a frustration for police departments in the area.

"What's wrong with this picture?" the police department asked.

The latest car burglaries were in south Elmhurst.

In the Facebook post, Elmhurst police said they have learned of similar burglaries of unlocked cars around the suburbs.

Patch has reported about those burglaries in Western Springs, Hinsdale, Darien, Burr Ridge and La Grange.

Here are tips from Elmhurst police:

  • Park vehicles inside (if possible).
  • Remove valuables and property from parked cars.
  • Remove key fobs and garage door openers.
  • Always lock your car. Don't make it easy for thieves.
  • If you spot suspicious people or cars during early morning hours in your neighborhood, call 911.
