Maple Avenue Development Introduced to Council
Approved by Plan Commission, plan for 12-story building near Davis Street introduced by a 6-1 vote.

Plans for a 12-story, 101-unit development at 1571 Maple Ave. took a step forward Monday as aldermen voted 6-1 to introduce the ordinance to the Evanston City Council, Evanston Now reports.
Still, several residents of the One Evanston building located next to the planned development raised concerns during an earlier Planning and Development Committee meeting regarding the height of the new building and the number of parking spaces it will hold, both of which require site allowances to be approved.
First Ward Ald. Judy Fiske cast the lone vote against, agreeing with the residents that the plan does not provide sufficient parking: i.e. 12 on-site spaces for the 101 residences. Centrum Partners, LLC - the developer - has agreed to lease 101 spaces from a nearby city-owned parking tower.

Fourth Ward Ald. Don Wilson was one of the six present to vote in favor. Wilson had previously told Patch that the matter is “a tough call,” seeing both the potential benefits and headaches the development could cause.
A final debate, and possibly a vote on the matter, is set to take place at the Council’s March 23 meeting.
