Customers spit on staff; switch price tags; car crashes through park fence; hit-and-run arrest reported: Glenview Police Blotter

GLENVIEW, IL — The following information comes from the Glenview Police Department and court records as a record of police activity, including incidents reported by the public and those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state and are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Every person arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
INCIDENTS
ARSON
- Playground equipment was burned and a basketball backboard was broken, causing $800 in damage, between 5:27 and 6:05 p.m. on Nov. 27 in the 2400 block of Chestnut Avenue.
- Someone set fire to a garbage receptacle behind a building in the 3900 block of Glenview Road around 10:45 p.m. on Nov. 29, causing an estimated $250 in damage.
- Between 5 p.m. on Dec. 1 and 6 a.m. on Dec. 2, someone set ablaze a recycling bin in the 2000 block of Patriot Boulevard. Damage, including to the asphalt, was estimated at $550.

- Someone stole a wallet containing $20 in cash and a credit card from the 1100 block of Church Street at 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 2, police were told the following day. Someone later used the credit card to buy gas in Chicago for a loss of $50.
- Someone stole a computer tablet worth $500 from a business in the 1700 block of East Lake Avenue between 10 a.m. and 7:40 p.m. on Dec. 3.
- A resident in the 1800 block of Aberdeen Drive reported someone stole two packages from their front porch containing a computer tablet, case and keyboard between 10:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Dec. 5 for a loss of nearly $263.
- Someone stole the rear license plate from a car in the 2900 block of Patriot Boulevard around 11 a.m. on Dec. 7 for a loss of about $100.
SUSPICIOUS KNOCKER
A resident in the 100 block of Waukegan Road reported around 2:45 p.m. on Dec. 3 that an unidentified man knocked on their patio door. He did not say anything, but motioned for the resident to open the door. The resident asked him to leave and he did.
RETAIL THEFTS
An employee of a business reported around 10:30 p.m. on Dec. 3 unidentified male and female shoplifters attempted to steal $300 in items from a business in the 2800 block of Pfingsten Road. The merchandise was later recovered in a duffel bag and the pair fled in an unidentified car. No descriptions was provided by police.

EMAIL SCAM
A Jerrie Lane resident reported about 4 p.m. on Dec. 4 that they had provided their social security number after clicking on a link in an email purporting to come from a representative of a cell phone company.
ELECTRONIC HARASSMENT
A Glenview Road resident reported around 9:15 p.m. on Dec. 4 that a former acquaintance had sent them harassing and threatening text messages.
IDENTITY THEFTS
- A Rugen Road resident reported around 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 5 that someone had used their identity to open an unauthorized credit card account and accrued more than $4,600 in bills.
- A Basswood Circle resident reported around 3:15 p.m. on Dec. 5 that someone had placed unauthorized charges on their credit card, written a check from their account to "cash" and made a withdrawal from their checking account for a loss of more than $1,500.
CAR BURGLARIES
- Someone stole a passport and clothing from a parked car in the 1800 block of Waukegan Road sometime in 2014 for a loss of $200, police were told on the afternoon of Dec. 6.
- Someone stole a bucket containing $50 in change from an unlocked car parked in a driveway in the 700 block of Clearview Road between 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 6 and 6:30 a.m. Dec. 7.
TRESPASSING
Someone entered a property under construction in the 600 block of Garden Court and tried to recruit some of the workers prior to 6 p.m. on Dec. 6, police were told.
BATTERY
The owner of a business in the 1900 block of Glenview Road reported around 12:11 a.m. on Dec. 7 that someone spit on them after they were asked to leave because the business was closed.
FIRED EMPLOYEE
An employee of a business in the 1700 block of Grove Street called police around 1:30 p.m. on Dec. 7 to request a terminated employee be escorted off the property.
NEIGHBOR DISPUTE
A resident in the 600 block of Juniper Road reported around 5:45 p.m. on Dec. 7 that a neighbor had come onto their property and accused them of blowing leaves onto a neighboring property.
SHOOTING
Police were called to the 1900 block of Palmgren Drive at 7:49 p.m. on Dec. 7 for a report that a resident had been shot in the abdomen. Read more..
HOME BURGLARY
A resident in the 3700 block of Glenview Road reported around 9:15 p.m. on Dec. 7 that someone had gotten into their garage and stolen an axe worth $80 from a wall.
DEATH INVESTIGATION
Police are investigating the death of a 54-year-old Glenview woman found in a hotel room in the 1800 block of Milwaukee Avenue. Read more...
CRIMINAL DAMAGE
Someone drove a car through a fence opening at a park in the 3600 block of Countryside Lane, causing $2,000 in damage to fencing and the grass, between 4 p.m. on Dec. 6 and 8:45 a.m. on Dec. 9.
FORGERIES
- A South Seminole Drive resident reported shortly before noon on Dec. 9 that someone had made more than $4,000 in unauthorized withdrawals from their checking account.
- A resident in the 1800 block of Waterbury Circle reported around 6 p.m. on Dec. 9 that someone had stolen three bank checks and cashed them for a loss of more than $1,500.
RACIAL SLURS
Two customers at a business in the 2200 block of Willow Drive yelled racial slurs at another customer around 2 p.m. on Dec. 9, police were told. The customer left before officers arrived and the two customers denied the allegation.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS
A 79-year-old Northbrook woman was issued a local ordinance citation for retail theft around noon on Dec. 3 after she changed the price tag from $79 to $14 on a shirt she purchased in the 1900 block of Tower Drive.
Kia Garcia, 25, of the 7400 block of Karlov Avenue, Skokie, was arrested around 3 p.m. on Dec. 5 at the Glenview Police Department and charged with leaving the scene of a traffic crash and failure to give information in connection with an investigation into a hit-and-run in the 1000 block of Milwaukee Avenue that occurred around 7 p.m. on Nov. 29. She was also issued a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.
A 73-year-old Chicago man was arrested around 1:15 p.m. on Dec. 6 and charged with driving with a suspended license following a traffic stop in the 4200 block of Dearlove Road. He was also issued a speeding ticket.
A 53-year-old Park Ridge woman was issued a local ordinance citation for retail theft around 4 p.m. on Dec. 7 after store staff in the 1900 block of Tower Drive reported she took a cell phone case offered for sale at $25 into the box for a case sold for $11.
