An injured sandhill crane spotted in and around the Carillon North subdivision in Grayslake is being nursed back to health thanks to the help of a local couple.

Bill and Suzanne Morris, who live in the subdivision, first spotted the crane in the past week. Suzanne Morris contacted the Willowbrook Wildlife Rehabilitation Center to let them know about the bird.

The center sent out Scott Ellis, from the Chicago Bird Collision Monitors. And along with Ellis’ son, Ethan, and Bill and Suzanne Morris, the group spent nearly two hours on Sunday tracking the injured bird and its partner.

The crane was finally safely captured, boxed and taken to the rehab center,” Suzanne Morris told Grayslake Patch in an e-mail. “Hopefully, the injured bird can be treated and eventually released back in the Grayslake area.”
