HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

SHOPLIFTING
An unidentified female shoplifter headed for the tequila aisle at Binny's, 153 Skokie Valley Road, around the time it opened at 9 a.m. on Oct. 14 and stole four bottles of Patron worth about $172 after placing them in her purse.

STOLEN CAR
Someone stole a white BMW 650xi with black wheels from a lot near the service area of M&I Imports, 2772 Skokie Valley Road. It was reported stolen on the afternoon of Oct. 19 and last seen a few days earlier.

CATALYTIC CONVERTER THEFTS

  • Someone stole the catalytic converters from three Chevy Express vans and one Toyota Prius while they were parked in front of the Highland Park Truck Center, 2900 Skokie Valley Road. The incidents took place during the first three weeks of October and the estimated loss was $2,500.
  • A catalytic converter was reported stolen from a white Chevy delivery truck that had been parked in the Studio 41 lot at 3160 Skokie Valley Road on or before Oct. 20 for an estimated loss of $1,800.

Jerry L. McCullum, 30, of the 5300 block of West Potomac Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 3:30 a.m. on Oct. 22 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and driving under the influence of alcohol with a breath alcohol concentration of 0.08 or greater following a traffic stop near the intersection of Park Avenue West and Skokie Valley Road. He was also issued citations for improper lane usage and illegal transportation of an open container of alcohol by a driver.

Jaylin McKinney, 26, of the first block of West Seminole Avenue in Lake Wales, Florida, was arrested around 11 p.m. on Oct. 22 and charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon after officers were called to the 700 block of Park Avenue West for a report of a person shot. Police reported they learned that McKinney had accidentally shot himself while sitting alone in his car in the 700 block of Red Oak Lane. According to the sheriff's office, McKinney posted the $3,000 cash portion of his bond on the evening of Oct. 23 and was released under the supervision of pre-trial services on the condition he must not possess any firearms or other dangerous weapons. Javier Rojas, 27, of the 1400 block of Wilson Avenue, Waukegan, was arrested around 2 a.m. on Oct. 24 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and reckless driving following a traffic stop in the 600 block of Skokie Valley Road. Officers also ticketed him for disobeying a red light, operating an uninsured motor vehicle and two counts of improper lane usage.
