HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

INCIDENTS

CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT
Someone used black paint to deface a small sign at Kennedy Park, 850 Clavey Road, with the letters "ARKO" at some point prior to the afternoon of Nov. 29.

SHOPLIFTING
An unidentified male thief wearing a black coat, white shoes, dark-colored pants and a black surgical mask stole about $850 worth of cosmetic items from the Walgreens, 655 Elm Place, at some point prior to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 3. The thief hid numerous items in his pocket and a white plastic shopping bag he had brought. Witnesses did not tell police in which direction he fled.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Zanna L. Tunik, 26, of the 4300 block of North Hamlin Avenue, Chicago, was arrested around 12:45 a.m. on Dec. 1 after police got a call that a driver had crashed into a parked car in the 900 block of Windsor Road. Officers reported they searched the car and found four prescription pills and some marijuana. Prosecutors approved two felony counts of possession of a controlled substance and a misdemeanor count of unlawful use of cannabis by a driver. Officers also issued Tunik with a citation for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash.


Note: Highwood has reported no arrests since Oct. 9.
