Ex-HPHS Substitute Teacher Charged With Having Child Porn Back in Jail

Steven Habay allegedly tested positive for alcohol during random curfew check.

A former Highland Park High School substitute teacher accused of cyberstalking and possessing pornographic images of minors older than 13 years of age is back in custody after an alleged violation of his bond conditions.

Steven Habay, 41, who had been on home confinement at his parents residence in Highland Park, tested positive for alcohol use during a random curfew check on May 6, the Highland Park News reports.

Habay was first accused of felony cyberstalking last May when authorities found he posted “disparaging rants” on a website he used for student assignments after learning he would no longer be hired as a substitute teacher.

Two months later, he was charged with possession of child pornography after authorities discovered images on his computer that depicted children over the age of 13.

Habay’s bond has been increased to $350,000 from $100,000. He is due back in court in June.
