HIGHLAND PARK, IL — The following information comes from the Highland Park and Highwood police departments and public records as a record of incidents reported to the police and of those arrested by police. Criminal charges represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Lake County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law beyond a reasonable doubt.

SHOPLIFTING
Staff at the AT&T store at 59 Skokie Valley Road reported shortly before 4 p.m. on Dec. 4 that an unidentified thief or thieves had earlier that afternoon stolen three cellphones valued at $2,800 from a display area.

ARRESTS/CITATIONS

Andrew Dehaan, 33, and Molly Smith, 35, both of the 4700 block of North Kedzie Avenue, Chicago, were arrested around 9:45 p.m. on Dec. 2 and charged with possession of a controlled substance and a hypodermic needle by officers investigating a two-car traffic crash at the intersection of Skokie Valley and Half Day roads. No injuries were reported from the crash. Dehaan, the driver, was also charged with driving without a license and issued citations for failure to reduce speed to avoid a crash and operating an uninsured motor vehicle. The suspected narcotics were sent to a crime lab for testing.

An 18-year-old Park City man was arrested around 1 a.m. Dec. 8 and charged with misdemeanor speeding 35 mph or more above the speed limit following a traffic stop at the intersection of Skokie Valley Road and Park Avenue. He was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle, possession of cannabis and improper lane usage.

A 20-year-old Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin, man was arrested around 3 a.m. Dec. 8 and charged with misdemeanor speeding 35 mph or more above the speed limit and possession of between 30 and 100 grams of cannabis following a traffic stop at the intersection of Skokie Valley Road and Park Avenue. He was also issued citations for operating an uninsured motor vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia.
