Anchored by a long-standing Starbucks and other daily-needs tenants, the property's sale highlights ongoing demand for well-located neighborhood retail in the North Shore market.
   

• Swastika found painted on slide at Highland Park playground: officials (abc7chicago.com) — Highland Park officials are responding after a swastika was discovered painted on a slide at Devonshire Park, where staff quickly removed the graffiti. Police say they're increasing attention on parks and houses of worship, while Mayor Nancy Rotering condemned the act as especially painful for Jewish families observing the High Holy Days and preparing for Sukkot.
   

• 'It just didn't take off': Why Lake County plastic bag recycling program is ending next year (dailyherald.com) — A regional plastic bag and Styrofoam recycling pilot, the Hefty ReNew Program, is ending next June, affecting Highland Park along with several other Lake County communities. Officials say strong participation couldn't overcome the lack of end markets for the materials, and residents are being urged to use store drop-offs like Jewel and Walmart if they still want to recycle bags.
