Convicted Killer Jailed For Allegedly Failing to Register as a Murderer
The killer told the cops she thought she had another month to get it done, police said.

A woman convicted of slaying an elderly man in 1979 was arrested Friday for allegedly failing to register with the state as a murderer.
Karla Jones, 56, had been sentenced to 40 years in prison for killing Joliet resident Herman Kuntz, according to the Illinois Appellate Court. Jones was released in August 2013 after serving 20 years
Kuntz was found stabbed to death in his home in August 1979, an appellate court opinion said, but Jones was not charged with his murder until she was taken into custody on an unrelated case 14 years later.

Jones confessed that she and her accomplice, Dontalyon Jimerson, hatched a scheme to steal Kuntz’s valuables, the opinion said. According to the plan, the opinion said, Jimerson was supposed to do the stealing while Jones “kept Kuntz busy upstairs.”
Jones “kept Kuntz busy” by having sex with him, according to a 1994 Chicago Tribune story, but “Kuntz heard noises on the first floor and was killed when he went to investigate.”

Since she is a murderer, Jones is required to register her address with police. She did so Nov. 5, police said, but neglected to do so again Feb. 5.
The police reportedly went looking for Jones at her last known address on Feb. 19 but her father told them she no longer lived at the Herkimer Street residence.
An officer then reportedly spotted Jones out and about Friday and arrested her. Jones explained that she was under the impression that she did not have to register again until March 5, police said. She was taken to the county jail.
