CVS Pharmacy Burglar Trips Alarm, Captured At JD Brown: Joliet Police

At 3:48 a.m. Joliet police officers responded to the CVS Pharmacy at 809 Plainfield Road for a burglar alarm.

JOLIET, IL — While most Joliet residents were sound asleep, a 39-year-old man from Plainfield, Josue Tapia, was captured by Joliet police shortly after the burglar alarm went off at the CVS Pharmacy at 809 Plainfield Road. Tapia prepared for his crime, wearing camouflage, bringing along hand tools, a flashlight and a bag to store his burglary gear, according to Joliet police.

By 6:20 a.m., Tapia was booked into his cell at the Will County Jail, and he's charges with burglary, attempted burglary, two counts of possession of burglary tools, possession of a controlled Substance and criminal damage to property.

Tapia is from the Plainfield area, the 1700 block of Mountain Ridge Pass, near Theodore Street.

According to Joliet police spokesman Dwayne English:

  • At 3:48 a.m., officers learned of the burglary alarm at the CVS Pharmacy on Plainfield Road. The alarm company notified officers that a man in camouflage was seen on surveillance video attempting to use an item to break the pharmacy window.
  • At the crime scene, officers discovered damage to both the pharmacy window and a rear door to the business.
  • A short time later, an officer checking the area for the suspect found a man who matched the description from the CVS incident in the rear of JD Brown Pharmacy at 837 Plainfield Road.
  • It was Tapia, and he appeared to be using a tool to break into the rear door of the business. The
  • Officers confronted Tapia and placed into custody without incident.
  • Joliet police say they recovered Alprazolam pills, hand tools, and a flashlight from a bag that he was carrying. Tapia’s vehicle was parked near JD Brown Pharmacy, and it was towed from the scene.
