Joliet Area Shootings For October: Here's Month In Review

The deadly shootings at the large backyard house party in Joliet's Ridgewood Area marked the first homicides in Will County for October.

JOLIET, IL — The Halloween party shooting just outside city of Joliet limits at 1018 East Jackson St. marked the worst mass shooting in years for the immediate Joliet area. A man and a woman, both 22, were found dead at the scene, and four other shooting victims were in critical condition Sunday. At least a dozen more party goers were injured.

Will County Sheriff's detectives said there were two gunmen who opened fire at the backyard party that had at least 200 people in attendance shortly before 1 a.m. The Halloween shootings in Joliet Township marked the first homicides in Will County during the month of October, according to a review of the Will County Coroner's Office death announcements.

There were, however, several non-fatal shootings in October across the Joliet area.

2 Dead, At Least 12 Shot At Joliet Township Party: Sheriff

A patrol sergeant with the Will County Sheriff's Office heard 10 to 12 gunshots at 12:39 a.m. Sunday in the area of Jackson Street and Walnut Street in Joliet Township. The sergeant learned the shooting occurred at 1018 E. Jackson Street in the backyard of the house. No arrests have been made.

At 8:15 p.m., Joliet police were notified of a shooting at 701 East Cass St., the Shell gas station near Henderson Avenue. The 23-year-old victim was shot in the leg. His gunshot wound was not life-threatening. No arrests have been made.

October 21

Woman, 18, Critical After Shooting On South Ottawa Street

The victim was shot in the head as she sat in the driver's seat of a car parked in the 200 block of South Ottawa Street around 1:40 p.m., according to Joliet police. No arrests have been made.

October 17

Child, 2, And Man, 25, Shot In Joliet's Forest Park Area

Joliet police said a 2-year-old child and a 25-year-old man suffered gunshot wounds around 6:45 p.m. in the 1200 block of Luther Avenue, the Forest Park area of Joliet's east side. The gunshot wounds were not considered life-threatening, according to police. No arrests have been made yet.

Bolingbrook Police Searching For Suspect In Saturday Shooting

The shooting took place just before 8 p.m. on Lot D of Fernwood Drive, where Bolingbrook police found the two people with gunshot wounds. Police said the two were shot outside their home.

Plainfield Man Shoots Woman He Dated, Takes His Own Life: Shorewood PD

Shorewood police said 36-year-old Plainfield resident Brandon Mills died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after he shot a 28-year-old Plainfield woman he had previously dated. The woman was hospitalized with multiple gunshot wounds following Monday's late night shooting outside the new La Quinta hotel near Interstate 55.
