LA GRANGE, IL – La Grange residents have expressed unhappiness before on the response to concerns about blasting at nearby quarries.

Joining their ranks is Beth Augustine, a village trustee.

A couple of weeks ago, Augustine noted an Oct. 10 blast from the Hanson Aggregates quarry in neighboring McCook. She said it was the loudest she heard in her more than 10 years in the village.

At Monday's Village Board meeting, she said she called the Lyons Township Quarry Council hotline, as residents are asked to do.

"I got a call about a week later from someone. I called him back because I missed it. I haven't heard (back)," Augustine said. "I guess I'm unimpressed so far with what the recourse is for residents. I'm looking forward to finding a bit more about what can be done to address that very huge problem."

The village website includes a page about quarry blasting, in which it gives the hotline number, among other things.

The page states complaints about blasting are to be acted on quickly. The handling of those complaints is reviewed on a quarterly basis, according to the page.

In response to a Patch inquiry earlier this month, Hanson Aggregates explained why the Oct. 10 blast seemed louder than most.
