Marine Shot Down By Joliet Cops Yelled At Wife In Courthouse Elevator: Report
Prosecutors moved to get a higher bond for the Marine but backed off Thursday.

A disabled Marine arrested after he was shot in the face by Joliet police officers yelled at his wife in a courthouse elevator, according to court papers.
Raymond Hansen, 41, allegedly punched his wife, Clancy Hansen, in the head and grabbed his teenage son around the neck before pointing assault rifles at Joliet police officers in March. That led to the officers opening fire on Raymond Hansen, police said. He was hit with “multiple” shots, including bullets to his face and chest.
Raymond Hansen was charged with aggravated assault for allegedly pointing the rifles at the officers and with domestic battery in connection with the alleged attack on his wife and child.

After a five-day stay at Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, Raymond Hansen was taken to the Will County jail. Raymond Hansen’s father posted $50,000 bail for his release on April 29.
On May 6, a Will County State’s Attorney sought to have Hansen’s bond increased. The prosecutor alleged that Raymond Hansen “yelled at Clancy Hansen while she was in the elevator at the Will County Courthouse.”

The matter was to be argued Thursday morning but the prosecutor withdrew his request instead.
“We filed based on the original police report,” said Charles B. Pelkie, the spokesman for the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office. “Upon further investigation, we made a determination that we wouldn’t be able to meet our burden of proof, so we withdrew the motion.”
Clancy Hansen, 39, filed to divorce Raymond Hansen two weeks after he was shot. According to a petition for a protective order she also filed for, on the night of the shooting, Raymond Hansen returned home “super intoxicated.”
“He could barely walk,” Clancy Hansen said. “He was slurring his words and would not go to bed. He had been drinking at Bar Louie in Bolingbrook since he left the house” that afternoon.
Raymond Hansen was working for Diageo in Plainfield at the time of the shooting, according to court papers, and was paid $5,000 a month. He also received $2,000 a month in disability and collected a pension of $1,700 per month.
Raymond Hansen is “90 percent disabled,” a court filing said, and suffers from both sleep apnea and acid reflux.
