Record-Setting New Lenox Placekicker Jailed on Sex Charges
The standout kicker, who went on to play for the University of Miami, was behind bars Wednesday.

A record-setting placekicker for Lincoln-Way Central who went on to play for the University of Miami was jailed on sex charges Wednesday.
Jake Wieclaw, 25, was booked into the Will County jail just after midnight Tuesday. Wieclaw, a New Lenox resident, faces charges of criminal sexual assault and aggravated criminal sexual abuse.
Wieclaw’s victim was at least 13 but younger than 18 at the time of the crimes, which occurred on Jan. 27 and 28, 2014, according to an indictment filed in Will County court.

In January 2014, Wieclaw had been working for the Lincoln-Way High School District as a paraprofessional and was also a volunteer football coach, said district spokeswoman Stacy Holland. He resigned within a week of the alleged incident.
As a four-year starter for Lincoln-Way Central, Wieclaw set the state record for most career field goals, kicking 48. He also set the state record for most field goals in a season with 19 in 2006.

Wieclaw graduated in 2007 and continued playing football at Miami. He kicked 30 field goals over the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
Wieclaw was being held in lieu of $100,000 bond.
