Apple Scammer; Child's Swing Stolen; Unlocked Cars: Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

DRIVING WHILE LICENSE SUSPENDED
Rosa Alvarez-Ventura, 30, of the 30500 block of N Sheridan Road, Waukegan, is accused of driving while license suspended, speeding, no insurance, and was arrested at 12:46 p.m. Aug. 17 following a traffic stop at Waukegan and Shermer roads. Alvarez-Ventura was released after posting $2,500 bond. Her next court date is set for Oct. 6.

Thomas F. Anderson, 39, of the 800 block of Elm Place, Glencoe, is accused of driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs, improper lane usage, driving an uninsured vehicle, and was arrested at 11:20 p.m. Aug. 19 following a traffic stop at Dundee Road and Bittersweet Drive. He posted $1,000 bond and was given a court date of Sept. 21.

  • A resident in the 1800 block of Lincoln Avenue reported at 1:46 p.m. Aug. 14 someone removed a child’s swing from a tree in the front yard.
  • A person in the 300 block of Southgate Drive called police at 10:10 p.m. Aug. 18 to report a man in their 20s exited a vehicle and removed a leaf blower from their landscaping trailer without permission.

ILLEGAL DUMPING

A resident in the 2700 block of Dundee Road called police at 1:29 p.m. Aug. 15 to report someone placed three cardboard boxes in their dumpster without permission.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE

A person reported at 12:30 a.m. Aug. 18 that someone damaged a second floor window at a building in the 2000 block of Center Avenue with what appears to have been a pellet type of projectile. No one was seen committing the act.

HARASSING TELEPHONE CALLS

A Dauphine Avenue resident called police to report receiving numerous calls between Aug. 17-18 from someone claiming to be representing Apple and that there were problems with the person's Apple products. The resident recognized this as a potential scam and did not answer or respond to the calls.

STOLEN VEHICLE

A resident in the 2500 block of Illinois Road reported at 6:27 a.m. Aug. 20 that their vehicle was taken from the driveway sometime during the overnight hours. The resident was unsure if keys were left in the vehicle. The vehicle was later located by Chicago Police Department.

TRESPASS/BURGLARY TO VEHICLE

  • A resident in the 2400 block of Illinois Road called police at 7:48 a.m. Aug. 20 to report someone entered their vehicle during the overnight hours. A front vehicle door was found open and nothing was believed to have been taken.
  • A resident in the 1100 block of Briarwood Lane reported at 12:40 p.m. Aug. 20 that their two unlocked vehicles were entered during the overnight hours. Taken from both vehicles were garage door openers.
  • A resident in the 2700 block of Shannon Road called police at 3:46 p.m. Aug. 20 to report that their two unlocked vehicles were entered during the overnight hours. The resident found their garage door open but nothing was known to have been taken from either the garage or either vehicle.
