NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.

ARRESTS

DRIVING UNDER THE INFLUENCE

Marco A. Ortega, 22, of the 4700 block of N. Knox, Chicago, is accused of driving under the influence, improper lane usage, possession of cannabis, and was arrested at 3:03 a.m. July 25 at Lake Cook Road and Revere. He was given a $1,000 bond and a court date of Aug. 10.

INCIDENTS

THEFT

A resident in the 1000 block of Sanders Road reported at 11:09 a.m. July 24 that someone, no description provided, was observed opening their mailbox and taking their mail.

VANDALISM

  • A person called police at 8:44 a.m. July 26 to report there was broken glass on a slide in the park in the 600 block of Berglund Place.
  • A resident in the 1000 block of Midway Road reported at during the overnight hours of July 30 that they observed streaks of orange paint and two paint balls on their patio.

BURGLARY

Officers responded to Nordstrom Rack, 100 block of Skokie Boulevard, at 4:46 a.m. July 27 for a burglar alarm activation. Upon arrival, they observed that the front window was broken out. It was unknown what was taken.

RETAIL THEFT

  • An employee at Neiman Marcus, 1400 block of Lake Cook Road, called police at 2:22 p.m. July 25 to report a black female, in their 20-30s, with long black hair and wearing a face mask removed a Chanel purse from the store without paying for the item.
  • An employee at Ulta, 900 block of Willow, reported at 2:21 p.m. July 28 a white female, in their 20-30s, left the store without paying for around $600 of various products.

ATTEMPTED ROBBERY

A resident in the 3500 block of Prestwick reported at 11:23 a.m. July 28 two men approached them in their rear yard, displayed a knife and threatened them. The two men were found in the area a short time later. The resident did not wish to cooperate any further with the investigation and the two men were released.

CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY

A resident in the 2800 block of Walters called police at 5:50 a.m. July 29 to report someone damaged a Blue Lives Matters sign which was displayed in their yard.

SUSPICIOUS TELEPHONE CALL

Someone called the police department at 7:37 a.m. July 29 to report a homicide in town. The person on the phone claimed to be in the rear parking lot of the police station at the time. The lot was checked and there were no people in the lot. The caller was found to be out of state at the time of the call, and no homicide in Northbrook occurred.

DISORDERLY CONDUCT

A resident in the 1900 block of Big Oak reported at 1:37 a.m. July 30 that someone threw eggs at their house.

IDENTITY THEFT

A resident reported at 12:59 p.m. July 30 that they received in the mail a debit card issued from the Illinois Department of Employment Security. The resident stated that they did not sign up for benefits.

DISPUTE

An employee at the Northbrook Sheraton, 1100 block of Willow Road, called police at 2:12 p.m. July 30 a dispute with a customer who stayed at the location for two nights and refused to pay for the stay.
