Felony ID Theft For iPhone; 'Water Department' Burglary: Blotter
Someone stole a resident's ID to purchase phone; incidents of people entering homes claiming to be water checkers: Northbrook Police Blotter

NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
ARRESTS
IDENTITY THEFT
Aliev Murad, 27, of the 1000 block of N. Spaulding Ave., Chicago, is accused of felony identity theft, possession of a fraudulent ID card, and was arrested at 1:04 p.m. July 10 in the 1500 block of Lake Cook Road. A person reported to police that an unknown person used their credit card to purchase a new iPhone without their permission. The person was notified of the purchase by their bank and notified the retailer. Store personnel contacted the police when Murad returned to the store to pick up the phone. Murad was transported to the station, processed and transported to court for a bond hearing after felony charges were approved by the Cook County State’s Attorney.

INCIDENTS
BURGLARY
- A resident in the 3500 block of River Falls Drive called police at 5:18 p.m. July 10 to report that two unknown people came to the residence claiming to work for the village and that there was a utility issue at the home. The resident allowed the subjects into the home. While one of the people distracted the resident, the other person went into several rooms and it appears went through several bedroom dresser drawers removing unknown items. The two people left the area in a vehicle.
- A resident in the 1900 block of Penfold Place reported at 3:58 a.m. July 12 that someone entered their unlocked vehicle which was parked in the driveway. They then used the garage door remote to open the garage door and entered two unlocked vehicles which were in the garage. The resident reported that a garage door opener, and a spare key to one of the vehicles were taken.

- A resident in the 2500 block of Stowe Court called police at 5:56 p.m. July 13 to report two packages were delivered to their residence that they did not order. The resident then checked their credit card statement and located the charges for the items which they did not authorize to be ordered.
- A Skokie Boulevard resident reported at 3:22 p.m. July 15 that an unknown person used their Social Security number unlawfully, representing it as their own.
- A Maple Avenue resident called police at 10:32 a.m July 16 to report they believe their information was somehow compromised and someone used his Social Security number to file for unemployment benefits.
- An Oak Knoll Court resident reported at 2:21 p.m. July 16 they believe someone used their personal information to obtain unemployment benefits that they did not file for.
RETAIL THEFT
An employee of Best Buy, 1000 block of Willow Road, reported at 5:13 p.m. July 14 that a man entered Best Buy, took possession of three laptops and then left the store without paying for the merchandise. The three black HP laptops were valued at $1,889.97.
THEFT
A resident in the 900 block of Enfield Drive called police at 7:28 p.m. July 15 to report they were expecting an Amazon delivery. When they checked the Amazon app, it stated that the package was delivered. The resident did not receive the package or authorize anyone else to accept it.
SUSPICIOUS CIRCUMSTANCES
An adult and juvenile in the 600 block of Touraine Terrace reported at 8:33 p.m. July 15 that they believed they were followed by a suspicious auto, which subsequently left the area without any contact. The vehicle was described as an older model silver sedan, possibly a Toyota Prius.
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY
A resident in the 700 block of York Court called police on July 16 to report a man claiming to be from the "water department" was invited in after convincing them they were there to test the water meter. The resident stated the man that entered her residence was speaking to another person on a foreign language on a walkie-talkie. Multiple areas of the house were rummaged through and a document containing images of credit cards and identification was missing.
