Pair Steal $10K In Jewelry During Quick Change Scam: Northbrook Police Blotter
The victim told police the pair, saying they like to help people, placed jewelry on him prior to the theft occurring.
NORTHBROOK, IL — The following information comes from the Northbrook Police Department and court records as a record of incidents reported to police and those arrested on criminal charges, which represent accusations by the state that are often dropped or reduced. Updated information may be available from the Cook County Clerk of the Circuit Court. Everyone arrested is presumed to be innocent unless found guilty in court beyond a reasonable doubt.
ARRESTS
FAILING TO APPEAR IN COURT
Joseismar A. Mireles Dominguez, of Rolling Meadows, had a warrant from the Cook County Sheriff's Office for failing to appear in domestic court, and was arrested at 5 p.m. April 17, at Dundee Road and Cotswold Way. Police had responded to the intersection due to a report of a car on fire, but officers discovered the vehicle had just overheated. Dominguez was taken into custody and moved to the Cook County Jail.

VIOLATION OF ORDER OF PROTECTION
Luis W. Collazo, of Chicago, is accused of violating an order of protection, and was arrested at 5:22 a.m. April 18 in Northbrook. A court date of April 23 was assigned.

INCIDENTS
JEWELRY QUICK CHANGE SCAM
A citizen walking at 6:13 p.m. April 17, at a park in the 1100 block of Sanders Road reported he had been approached by two people while walking in the park. The pair first tried to give him money, saying they like to give to the needy. When he refused, they placed jewelry on him, saying they like to help people. After they left, he noticed the real jewelry that he had on before the people approaching him was missing and he was robbed. The jewelry's value was approximately $10,000.
CRIMINAL DEFACEMENT
Northbrook Park District staff reported at 8:51 am. April 21, someone had spray-painted hearts and wording on their electrical box near the baseball field in the 1400 block of Maple Avenue.
PHONE SCAM
A Lee Road resident reported at 3:05 p.m. April 22, she had received a text message on her phone asking if she had recently made a purchase for $400. She responded no and she received an immediate phone call from a person posing as a bank representative. After a conversation the person was able to access her bank account and withdraw $2403.30 from the complainant’s account.
COMPUTER HACKING
An Exeter Lane resident reported at 5:12 p.m. April 22, she noticed someone had obtained remote access to her computer during a recent online meeting. She had clicked on a link she thought was safe and then noticed her computer cursor moving around the screen without her control. The complainant quickly turned off the computer and restarted it. The complainant believed she was able to thwart the illegal takeover but wanted to document the incident in case financial information was lost.
ACCOUNT TAKEOVER
A White Mountain Drive resident reported at 8:50 a.m. April 23, he had started receiving several unknown texts on his phone. Soon after, he noticed his phone was locked and the screen was not working. After checking with his carrier, he noticed someone had hacked into his account and even ordered a new phone that he did not authorize. The complainant is working with his carrier to see how the account was compromised.
THEFT
A resident in the 1100 block of Jeffrey Court reported at 6:34 p.m. April 23, two packages had been delivered to his porch from Nordstrom Rack. When the complainant went to retrieve the packages, one had been stolen. The stolen package contained shoes and a shirt valued at $120.
